A first half penalty and second half mistake saw the Jackdaws crash to a 2-0 defeat in their first outing of the campaign.
The performance was lacklustre and produced very little to write home about, except for the unfortunate broken leg suffered by James Waller after 27 minutes of the first period.
Ashby started the game brightly, but were thankfull that debutant keeper Tom Collinson was on hand to make a smart stop early on in proceedings.
It was however a clumsy challenge by Dan Barham which gave the home side their chance from the 12 yard mark, and when Elliott Muddiman slotted home the spot kick, the home side never looked back.
Waller's injury held the game up for 20 minutes while the medical services were called, and obviously put a slight dampner on the home performance.
The second period saw the Crown & Cushion increase their lead after a poor goal kick from Collinson. Despite making a tremendous save from the first effort, he was unable to do anything about the follow up from Mitchell Donohoe.
Tony Kinnear was disappointed with the lack of desire shown by his side, and must now try and galvanise them for the visit of Cotton Hill Warriors this Sunday
